US Airport Parking at DIA Privacy Policy
Instead of the usual long-winded (and very expensive! I'm too cheap to hire a lawyer for this)
disclaimer that most organizations give for a privacy policy,
I'll try to tell it in plain English.
First of all, in the eight years (or however long it's been when you read this, I don't update this page every day...)
that we have been open, we have never sold, rented, or lent a name or address. Not once. Not ever. I don't like to be bombarded
with junk mail, e-mails and phone calls, and I understand your desire not to be
hassled as well. Plenty of companies talk about there "privacy policies," which amount
to complex promises about what they will or won't do. The simple fact is that we have
never shared a name, address, phone number, or e-mail with anyone.
We collect names, e-mails, and address for several reasons. One, we need your address
to send you a frequent parker card. Secondly, we send out OCCASIONAL
mailings to our customers-Letting them know about our programs, discounts, or news. We
will sometimes include information about or partners like AAA or King Soopers, or
charitable programs we are involved with, but, again, I try to keep that
limited to stuff that I think is worthwhile. We've always send it ourselves,
I've never given the list to anyone else. Thirdly, we use information we gather internally
to figure out where our customers live to better target our own advertising, and
understand our own business. Lastly, we also use the database for our contests,
in which Frequent Parkers win prizes.
Can I promise that your name will never ever be sold or shared by USAirport Parking?
Of course not. I may not always have this job, the current owners might sell the place
someday, and anything is possible. Hackers could break into my computer and steal
the list. I think that anyone who controls the list of our Frequent Parkers would be
well-advised to not abuse that trust. I can't promise that it would never happen, or
that our policy would never change, but I'll think you are far less likely to wind up on
junk mail list with us that hundreds of other places that have your name and other info.
Take a close look at the fancy, impressive sounding privacy policies of some large companies.
There are usually loopholes big enough to drive a shuttle bus through. The reality of
modern life is that once you buy a car or house, open a bank account or get a credit card,
marketers start adding you to lists. Junk mail is a fact of life,
and the vast majority of our frequent parkers have already been identified as
"frequent travelers" on some other list (example: Frequent Flyer programs,
airline web sites, on-line travel agencies, etc.) that's for sale.
USAirport Parking has about 20,000 frequent parkers. Big marketers wouldn't even
been interested in buying or renting a list that small, and with names and address
as old as our list (some were gathered as long as eight years ago). Logically, our frequent parker
list doesn't have any great value, except to us, so there would be no great benefit in
USAirport Parking selling the list.
